Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María is one of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in Chile. It owes its origins to the idea of the visionary businessman Federico Santa María who created an institution of higher learning that would transform the teaching of science and technology in Chile.

In 2009 the UTFSM won the Second National Contest Basal Financing Program for Scientific and Technological Center of Excellence (CONICYT) wich aimed to the creation of the Valparaiso Center for Science and Technology CCTVal. The main objective of the Center is to foster the discovery of new knowledge in Physics and the development of High Technology in Chile, based on our current level of Physics and Engineering, and taking advantage of the newly established experimental collaborations with CERN
The Center for Technological Innovation in High Performance Computing (CTI-HPC) is a part of the CCTVal and it is involved in the short-term implementation of supercomputing resources in order to solve high impact business and social problems.

CTI-HPC is mainly focused in the following areas:

  • Financial Market and Trading
  • Georeferencing and Geostatistics applied to Copper Minning
  • Biomedical Image Processing
